Glee Club in visit to Handel's House

Colin Cheeseman writes: Six of members of the Glee Club visited the Handel Museum in brook Street, Mayfair,
London, where the composer lived from the time of his naturalisation as a British subject in 1726 to the time
of his death in 1759. The house, on three floors, comprises his rehearsal room, large enough to seat about
30 people, where a replica of his harpsichord is kept; his composition room, where you may see original
scores and listen to productions of them on headphones; a room containing costumes of the period for
children to dress up in; and a video room in which excerpts from his operas can be seen along with tributes
to the depth of his understanding of human feeling and motivation. There is a shop where you can buy
anything from a pencil to an erudite tome on Handel and his period. The house is staffed by proud and
helpful dedicatees of the great man.
Members of the Glee Club were prominent in the entertainment
during Southend U3S's 2008 Christmas Social, singing around
the piano to great applause.
